A Spiral Roll – An Introduction to Learning the Spiral
Spiral Ramps are one of the more common maneuvers performed by modern dancers. However, what is a spiral ramp, and why do dancers use them? We will go over a basic spiral dance technique that every dancer should know.
First, let’s start with the definition of a ramp. The definition of a ramp is any move that involves a series of spins, both to the left and the right (in a clockwise rotation), with one end of the body moving faster than the other. In order to learn this move, dancers use a pole (a straight stick or elastic) and place their feet in the front of the stick, making sure their toes don’t touch the ground. From here, they perform the move in reverse.
Now, dancers use their arms, legs, torso, head, and torso as support while performing the spiral move. At first glance, this seems like it would be extremely difficult, but it actually gets easier with practice. With the pole in hand, the dancer takes one arm and swings it back and forth, similar to a swing. However, instead of using their arm as the support, the dancer uses their leg, balancing themselves so both legs are working simultaneously.
Next, the dancer faces the pole. With their arms still in position on the supporting leg, the dancer steps into the ball, balancing themselves so both feet are working together. Then, the dancer rolls the pole from side to side. Remember that you should always start with your feet on the ground, just like when you’re doing the simple ballroom dance. As the dancer steps into the ball, they should face the pole again, so that they are aligned with it. When they are in perfect balance, the dancer moves the pole around themselves, mimicking the circular or spiral movement that is used in the entire dance.
It is important for beginners to remember that it is very easy to get side-tracked while moving the pole around themselves. If the dancers aren’t paying attention to where they are going, then they can easily become disoriented. The best way to avoid this is to focus on the circular motion that is being made while rotating the pole. Once they have mastered this, they may want to try out the more advanced moves such as the spiral. Some dancers have had success performing the spiral while working on the pole, although they have found it to be more difficult than when they were just learning the basics. However, they have found that they can improve their routines without having to spend a lot of time practicing on the simpler moves.
Many people find that the spiral is an excellent way to learn how to dance. It requires basic skills and the ability to keep one’s balance. However, if you are looking for a unique dance that you can perform in a social setting, this may not be the best dance for you to learn. If you enjoy learning new dance moves, but don’t feel that they are complex or difficult to master, then the spiral may be a good option for you to consider.
